Innovation for all

Newco is dedicated to creating an accessible experience for everyone, including people living with disabilities. We also know that building a space that serves everyone and achieves ADA compliance is demanding. This page is meant to serve as a guide, to help you get started considering how you place your equipment. This page reflects materials found at ada.gov, but is not exhaustive or definitive. We advise you consult your architect or legal counsel to ensure compliance, where and when necessary.

The defining and essential factor to consider when attempting to achieve ADA compliance is counter height. Your counter height, which Newco cannot determine, interacts with the button placements on our self-serve equipment, to create usable surfaces, which may or may not conform to ADA proscribed side and forward reach measurements.

Because Newco does not currently diagram button placements, we recommend using the below diagram, in conjunction with our equipment's total height (found on each machine's spec sheet), when attempting to determine reach. Again, no matter the measurement of our equipment, the counter height you choose to install our equipment on will be the main determining factor in ADA compliance.

Applying the guidelines

So what does it all mean? Let's look at two examples to try and understand how the diagram can be applied. First, suppose you've purchased a CX Touch Horizon for your break room (same dimensions as the original CX Touch). The machine is going to sit 6" back from the counter, so I look at the second diagram, because our "obstruction," or depth, is less than 10." Checking the spec sheet, available on Newco's literature page, I can see that the CX Touch Horizon has a overall height of 18." I look at the diagram, see that 48 inches is my maximum reach height, subtract the 18," and now know my maximum counter height is 30" under these conditions. If I try placing the machine 10" to 24" deeper on the counter, I will have to lower my counters to 28" maximum (46-18).

Now let's look at a more nuanced case. I'd like to place an Infinibrew in a convenience store and want the customer surfaces to meet compliance. I'll want to talk to my lawyer or architect and discover if they consider the taps the only usable surface, as this machine is 33.6" tall, with a screen near the top and taps about halfway down. The top of the machine isn't necessary for customers to reach, only my team.  If my architect agrees, we'll use half the total Infinibrew height as a safe, "taps are below this measurement", estimate and place the Infinibrew on a counter with a maximum height of 31.2 inches (max height 48"- Infinibrew tap estimate of 16.8).

Let us know how we're doing

We hope this page has been helpful. Newco is dedicated to creating an accessible experience for everyone, including people living with disabilities. Our work is ongoing, through applying the current accessibility standards as they apply to our website. Modifying our spec sheets to include all equipment's button placements is a long term goal, in order to aid you as you place equipment in real world environments.
