Dave Papineau and the National Restaurant Show

The spring tradeshow season is winding down, but for our sales team, the work is never done. I had a chance to catch up with them at NAMA in Los Angeles and at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago last weekend. Each show, for the rest of the year, I’ll be highlighting one member of our sales team.

First up is David Papineau, Newco’s representative in the Northeastern United States. Dave is a riot to be around; warm, gregarious, with a quick wit. Dave made me feel instantly welcome at the shows, regaled me with stories, and kindly helped me when I had questions about our machines and trade show presence.

Dave first got to know Newco as a distributor, working as a salesman for a roaster who distributed our brewers to their customers when they purchased coffee. When that company was sold, our VP of Sales, Jason College, was quick to put a call out to Dave and offered him a position on our team. He’s been representing Newco on the East Coast since 2011.

Just last week, ahead of the NRA show, Dave introduced the InfiniBrew to the New York Association of Convenience Stores. His excitement for the InfiniBrew is palpable, as he calls it, “the best invention in coffee I’ve ever seen.” The c-store brokers in New York were excited too. They said the InfiniBrew felt like a perfect match between the problems of convenience stores and the solutions it offers in terms of labor savings, increased worker safety, and automatic features.

Dave’s stories always bring smiles to the whole team, a prime example being the story of what happened at a golf tournament where he was going to meet a group of customers. Dave packed his clubs and a bag, and started a long drive to attend the tourney. After a few hours on the road, music pumping, he pulled into the country club, parked, and suddenly, he heard a very strange noise. Dave keeps chickens, and apparently one had stowed away in the back of his SUV, kept quiet on the drive, then announced itself as they pulled into the country club.

A chicken stands on a red suitcase in the back of an SUV.

Dave ran inside, grabbed a bowl of water and a blueberry muffin, rolled the windows down, and let the chicken entertain itself while he went in to mingle with his customers. The story ends happily, as the chicken got an incredible story to tell back at the coop, and only the car was worse for wear.

Dave’s favorite way to relax is hiking the trails around his house in Rhode Island. He loves working with the people in the coffee industry, loves how the products are constantly evolving, and loves that Newco built its success on always going the extra mile for its customers.
